In 1958, Rose Pamphyle lives in Saint-Fraimbault together with her father, a gruff widower who desires her to marry the son of a local mechanic. Against her father's needs, Rose travels to Lisieux and applies for just a career for a secretary for insurance coverage agent Louis Échard.
